Stations vs. Playlists

Stations on Pandora act more like terrestrial radio stations, though they are guided by Thumb feedback or added seeds. While listening to a station, you can thumb songs up or down to help your station what to learn next.

Playlists, on the other hand, are customized and guided by your personal choice. You can add specific content in the order you prefer. If you need help building your playlists, you can enlist the help of Pandora's Music Genome by selecting Add Similar Songs. You'll have the option to edit the recommendations.

Edit a playlist

Edit a playlist from a mobile device:

To edit your playlists, go to My Collection and tap the name of the playlist you'd like to make changes to. Next, tap the Edit icon below the album art.

  • To remove songs from your playlist, scroll down and press the circled 'x' to the left of the songs you would like to remove or swipe the track name from right to left. (Deleting songs from your custom playlists will not remove the original Thumb rating from your stations).

  • To adjust the order of your playlist, hold and drag the list icon on the right of the track title to the desired position.

  • To rename your playlist, tap the current name then enter whatever you’d like to call it.

  • Tap the Add Similar Songs button located at the bottom of your playlist if you need some assistance with building your playlist. Pandora will add songs that match the musical qualities of the tracks already in your playlist. You can re-order songs we've added or delete any unwanted songs.

If you aren't able to edit your playlist, it may have been created by another listener and shared with you, or curated for you by Pandora. If that's the case, you'll need to make a copy of the playlist so that you can add, move or remove tracks.

Enjoy Personalized / Curated Playlists

Pandora will curate playlists personalized just for you. Some of these playlists are automatically generated, and a few will be added to your account automatically.

These auto-generated playlists are created after:

  • you have Thumbed Up five or more songs on a radio station you've created

  • You've been listening at the Premium level for a little while.

Some auto-generated playlists, like those created from your Thumbs Up, will be added to your collection automatically.

At this time, auto-generated playlists cannot be edited because they're curated by Pandora and will be updated from time to time. However, you can make a copy of the playlist so that you can add and remove tracks.

To copy this or any other playlist:

  1. Open the playlist you wish to copy and tap the ellipsis to the right of the play icon to reveal a menu.

  2. Tap Add to Playlist and create a new playlist for a perfect copy, or, if you prefer, add this playlist to an existing one.

Experience the My Thumbs Up playlist

My Thumbs Up is a playlist that collects your Thumbed Up tracks from each of your stations. Every time you thumb up a song on your stations, it will be automatically added to this playlist. My Thumbs Up playlists will only play the songs you have Thumbed Up. To listen to this playlist, go to My Collection, filter by Playlists and select My Thumbs Up.

Download a playlist

Downloading playlists is only possible from certain mobile devices.

To download content from My Collection, click the download button (icon with arrow pointing downward). Keep in mind that this button will only appear for eligible tracks.

If you change your mind at any point during the downloading process, simply tap the download button again, and we'll halt your download progress.

Share a playlist

While you can share a playlist with another listener regardless of their subscription level, you'll need to make sure that your Pandora Profile is set to Public (rather than Private).

For more information on how to share playlists from a mobile device or our website see Sharing on Pandora.

Delete a playlist

From a mobile device:

To delete a playlist, go to My Collection and tap the name of the playlist you'd like to delete.

Tap the Edit icon below the album art, scroll down and select Delete Playlist.

From our website:

Go to My Collection, locate the playlist you want to delete and hover over the album art. Click the ellipsis (three dots) and select Remove from your collection.

Understanding “Radio only” tracks

Although the majority of the songs in our collection will be eligible to be played without restrictions, you may encounter a portion of songs that are labeled "Radio Only." Due to our current licensing agreements, you won't be able to play these songs on-demand or offline. This also means that any track labeled as "Radio Only" cannot be added to custom playlists.
