Why does Pandora need my zip code, gender, and birth year?

Pandora collects registration data (birth year, gender and zip code) to customize and improve the products, services, content and advertising we provide to listeners.

For example, the free version of Pandora is supported by advertisements, and we want to be able to show the most relevant ads to our listeners. We use your age, gender and zip code (the three pieces of demographic information you provide at registration) to personalize advertising on Pandora. To learn more about how we use your data, see our Privacy Policy.

Tip: When registering for a Pandora account, be sure to enter just your birth year (e.g., 1975) rather than your full birthdate.

How is my privacy protected when I use the voice assistant?

At Pandora, we make it our priority to keep your data secure.

With that in mind, we've created this Voice Features FAQ with more specific information about how your privacy is protected when you're using Voice Mode.

What does Pandora do with my information?

Pandora uses your information to operate and improve its services, personalize your listening experience, and support advertising and communications. This includes using data to deliver music and features, provide recommendations, tailor ads, communicate with you about your account or updates, and analyze how the service is used. For more details about what information is collected, how it’s used, and your choices, please review our Privacy Policy.

What are Pandora's age requirements?

In order to register for an account on the Pandora service, you must be at least thirteen years of age or older.

I entered my birthdate, but can't register for a Pandora account. Why?

You must be at least thirteen years of age or older to register for an account on the Pandora service.

If you're over thirteen and having trouble registering, make sure you enter your birth year only (e.g., "2003").

How do I opt out of marketing emails?

On a computer:

  1. Click your Profile icon in the top right corner.
  2. Go to Settings > Notifications.
  3. Turn off the toggle next to any notifications, emails, or messages you no longer want to receive.

On a mobile device:

  1. Open your Profile and select the Settings gear ⚙️ in the top right corner. Go to Notifications.
  2. Turn off the toggle next to any notifications, emails, or messages you no longer want to receive.

Please keep in mind that no matter what notification preference you set, all registered Pandora users will receive occasional communication about important updates to the service. We try to make these as infrequent as possible. The only way to prevent yourself from ever receiving any communication from us is to delete your account.

How do I exercise my State privacy rights?

If you live in a State that provides specific privacy rights, you may have additional choices regarding your personal data. If you are a resident of one of the states listed in the “State Specific Rights” section of the Pandora Privacy Policy, you can exercise those rights by submitting a request through the “Your Privacy Choices” form.

How can I manage my advertising preferences?

You can manage your advertising preferences, including certain choices about how your information is used for personalized ads, by visiting our Advertising Preferences page.
