What is Offline Mode?

Offline Mode is a feature we offer to Plus and Premium subscribers that enables you to listen without a Wi-Fi or cell network signal. This is a great way to stay connected to your music wherever you go. You can choose to enter Offline Mode manually or automatically.

Pandora Premium subscribers have the ability to download many songs, albums, stations, or playlists from Pandora's library to listen to offline.

How to Listen Offline

Manually: From the My Music screen, tap the menu button, then toggle the Offline Mode switch at the bottom of the menu ON (blue). While in Offline Mode, only the music you have downloaded to your device will appear.

Automatically: If you lose your Wi-Fi and cell network connection, we'll automatically switch you to Offline Mode. When this happens, Pandora will alert you with a notification to let you know that we are switching you to offline listening and choose a station for you to listen to.

Download Music Manually

Pandora will automatically download 3 of your most listened to stations in the last 6 months to get you started, as well as your Thumbprint Radio (if available).

To download content from My Music, click the download button (icon with arrow pointing downward). Keep in mind that this button will only appear for eligible tracks.

If you change your mind at any point during the downloading process, simply tap the download button again, and we'll halt progress.

If you lose connection while downloading, we'll save your spot with your partially downloaded playlists, albums and stations. The next time you gain a signal, we'll attempt to complete the download process for you.

Sort Offline Music/Show Only Downloads

By default, songs, albums, stations, and playlists in Offline Mode are sorted by most recently downloaded. Artists, however, are sorted from A-Z.

To view only downloads, tap the row just under the Recently Played carousel, and a menu will drop down that will allow you to filter your collection. Toggle the switch to “Show Only Downloads” to view only content that is stored on your device.

How much storage do I need to download a station?

Offline Stations usually take up anywhere from 300 MB-700 MB of device space depending on the types of stations you listen to. For example, classical music may take up more space than a pop station.

Note: If you are concerned about space on your device, just know that Pandora will never use the last 500 MB of storage on your device. When Pandora detects that there is not enough storage on your device for all of your Offline Stations, we will download as many stations as we possibly can. Additionally, we will alert you with a notification in the case that you are approaching this 500 MB limit.

What happens to my downloads if my subscription ends?

Pandora Premium allows subscribers to take individual songs, albums, or stations offline for listening within the Pandora app while your subscription is active. However, it's not possible to transfer your Pandora music collection to an external music library like iTunes. If you're outside of our app, or you're accessing Pandora from our website or another type of device, you won't be able to view those downloads.

If you'd prefer to download music for your personal collection with a file you can access elsewhere, we recommend buying it from an online music store or authorized retailer.
